Covers’ Help for Hospices returns with £30,000 fundraising target

After a break due to the pandemic, Covers Timber & Builders Merchants’ hugely successful fundraising initiative Help for Hospices will return in September.

The company, which has 14 depots across the South of England, is aiming to raise £30,000 on behalf of local hospice charities, including Demelza Hospice in Sittingbourne, Kent; Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Surrey; St Barnabas House in Worthing, West Sussex; Martlets Hospice in Brighton, East Sussex; St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Chichester, West Sussex; St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley, West Sussex; St Peter & St James Hospice & Continuing Care Centre in Lewes, East Sussex; The Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville, Hampshire; Mountbatten Hospice in Southampton, Hampshire; Hospice in the Weald in Tunbridge Wells, Kent; and children’s hospices, Naomi House and Jacksplace in Winchester, Hampshire; and Chestnut Tree House in Arundel, West Sussex.

From Monday 13th September until Friday 17th September, Covers will be donating £5 for each registered customer that makes a purchase during the event. The generous company has pledged to contribute at least £20,000 of its own money to the campaign.

On Monday 13th September, volunteers from the hospices will join staff at Covers’ depots for a Best of British themed ‘builders bake off’. Whether it’s a classic Victoria sponge cake or the perfect pork pie, Covers’ staff will showcase their finest sweet and savoury baking efforts for charity. Following the competition, all bakes will be sold or auctioned to Covers’ staff and customers. All proceeds raised from the bake sale will go towards the final fundraising amount.

Rupert Green, Chairman of Covers, said:

“Covers’ Help for Hospices campaign has been running since 2015 and, despite having to put activities on hold last year, we are extremely proud to have given more than £155,000 to our chosen charities over the past six years. Our local hospices are absolutely crucial to the communities they serve and rely heavily on donations to ensure they can continue to operate. We are looking forward to resuming our popular Help for Hospices charity week for 2021 and hope as many people as possible join us to support these extremely worthy causes.”
