Southampton MP visits Covers to celebrate 175th anniversary year

Covers Timber & Builders Merchants welcomed Royston Smith, the Conservative MP for Southampton, to its depot on Friday 11th March.

Mr Smith was given a tour of the depot by depot manager Michael Sheath who explained its operations and products as well as how the business gets involved with community projects and charitable giving. Mr Smith also met Covers’ Finance Director James Bowry and Assistant Depot Manager, Tony Jewell. The company is headed up by Chairman Rupert Green and Managing Director, Henry Green. The Green family has been running the independent business since the 1940s.

Royston Smith MP commented:

"I'm grateful to Covers Timber and Builders Merchants for inviting me to visit their Southampton depot to celebrate their 175th birthday. It was great to meet the team and see the extensive range of timber and building supplies they offer. I was also pleased to learn about all they were doing to ensure their supplies and the business are as sustainable as possible. I was also interested to learn that Covers is a family run business with a proud history. Thanks again to Covers for inviting me to visit.”

Michael Sheath, Depot Manager of Covers Southampton, added:

“We’ve worked hard to become one of the leading businesses in the area. We’ve built a loyal customer base and encourage the local community to use us for their construction and DIY needs. It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Smith as part of our 175th anniversary celebrations and show him around.”
