Community support scheme sees Covers employee help young DofE explorers

As part of its Covers in the Community Scheme, an employee from Covers Timber and Builders Merchants' Chichester depot spent a day volunteering with the Tsunami Explorer Scout Unit.

Nathan Bilham, a mill assistant at Covers’ branch on Quarry Lane, supported young people who were undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice Expedition on the South Downs. He helped them plan a route and pack their bag correctly, before providing guidance to the team of six during their 24km expedition.

Nathan commented:

“I have been involved with the Scouts since I was six years old – I joined as a Beaver and I’m now an adult leader for the 2nd Bognor Sea Scouts. During my time as a Scout, I have learnt many skills and, through many adventures, I have developed a passion for sport and hiking.

“One of the main aspects of Scouting and the Duke of Edinburgh award is supporting the community, and I would like to thank Covers for giving me the chance to help young people prepare for their silver award.”

The Covers in the Community Scheme sees the company give employees time off to volunteer and support organisations, charities and community projects.

Henry Green, Managing Director at Covers, added:

“We are proud of the support we provide to local community projects through donations and fundraising. Our Covers in the Community scheme enables us to go one step further by supporting our team to provide in-person help, whether that’s offering manpower to complete general maintenance tasks, or helping young people learn new skills, like Nathan has done – well done to him.”
