Engineered flooring vs solid wood flooring

As summer draws to a close, it is important for your home to be a place that brings you comfort and warmth, especially as the colder months begin to creep up on us. Your flooring has a big impact on giving your home that perfect ‘homely’ feel - choosing the right type can make a big difference.

At Covers there are two popular options when it comes to flooring, especially if carpet isn’t really your thing. They are solid wood flooring and engineered flooring, but why are they such good options?

Where to start?

It is tricky knowing where to start when choosing a new flooring style, especially if it’s something you’ve not really focused on or had an interest in before, which is why it is good to get the right information.

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood flooring is a great option when thinking of choosing a floor type. This is because it is durable and hardwearing and is able to deal with different types of materials on it, such as, chairs, sofa and shoes. This type of flooring also gives you better value for money and, when compared with engineered flooring, it is the cheapest option; however it is prone to things such as scratches and possible moisture damage.

Solid wood flooring can also be refinished and resanded multiple times, allowing it to be brought back to life with new styles repeatedly, as well as being long lasting. Another positive of this type of flooring is that you can pick from a large range of shades and styles ensuring your floor is unique for your home. Solid wood flooring will bring your home a sense of timelessness and tradition that is suitable for any style of home.

Engineered Flooring

Engineered flooring is another gorgeous option. It gives you the look of a traditional wood floor without being the real thing. Engineered flooring is also a very versatile material making it perfect for underfloor heating, and when occasional spillages occur, they can be wiped up with ease. Like solid wood flooring, it can also be refinished allowing you to really make it unique to you.

This type of flooring is very stable and gives you a range of finishes; however, the colours are prone to fading after a long period of time. Even though this choice of flooring is of a slightly lower quality than solid wood flooring, it does give you the chance to create a unique style in your home.

Both these flooring options are perfect for your home and are ideal to use in rooms such as living rooms and bathrooms. They are available in dark and light styles and can add a sense of cosiness, which we all want during the upcoming cooler months.
